Blake Named One of 20 finalists for the 2012 USA Olympic Team

Today, Blake was named to the pool of finalists that the Olympic team will be chosen from.  Of the 20, 18 of them were on the gold medal teams from the 2008 Olympics and the 2010 World Championships

Returning from the team that won gold in Beijing are:
Back from the reigning world champions are: Kevin Durant,Derrick RoseTyson ChandlerEric GordonRudy GayKevin LoveLamar OdomChauncey Billups,Russell Westbrook and Andre Iguodala.(ESPN)

The only 2 new additions to this list are Griffin and LeMarcus Aldridge because they have had a lack of big men in the past.

Of these 20 players, 12 will be on the official roster and 6 will be tabbed as reserves.  After discussing with some buddies, I believe that the 12 will be Chris Paul, D. Rose, and Deron Williams at the point, Kobe and D Wade at the 2, LeBron, Carmello, and Durant at small forward, Kevin Love and Blake at power forward, and Dwight Howard and Tyson Chandler at center.

I think ultimately, if injuries aren't a factor, the 2 that will be eliminated are Chauncy Billups (he's clutch, but old and there are too many point guards) and Lamar Odom who's mind isn't entirely into basketball at this point after reports of him considering a year off from the game have emerged.

This team is as nasty as we've seen since the original Dream Team in 1992, so expect big things out of this squad.

The good people at Sports Spectacular, who raise money for the Medical Genetics Institute at Cedars-Sinai, are auctioning off this autographed Blake Griffin jersey at
www.charitybuzz.com/catalog_items/292209

The proceeds for this item benefit Sports Spectacular, supporting the Medical Genetics Institute at Cedars-Sinai

Own this framed Los Angeles Clippers jersey signed by 2009 first overall NBA draft pick, 2011 Rookie of the Year and winner of the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Blake Griffin. Blake Griffin was also a featured honoree at the 2011 Cedars-Sinai Sports Spectacular, and this jersey was signed at the event.

Blake is off to a Great Start

The Clippers are 7 games into the season, which means that we're already 1/10th of the way through the season.  Let's take a look at some of the numbers that Griffin is putting up.

Blake is:
6th in the league in scoring per game at 23.7 ppg
4th in the league in rebounds per game at 10.6 rpg
11th in the league in field goal percentage at 56%
8th in the league in double doubles with 4

And the Clippers are 7th in the Western Conference with a 4-3 record.

Blake's Q Score is Climbing

Blake is starting to pop up everywhere.  After having a killer rookie year, Blake has been in commercials, comedy shorts, talk shows, and more.  He's also been featured on the covers of Sports Illustrated's NBA Preview Issue, and ESPN's The Body Issue.  Now you can put Men's Health on the list.  Look for Blake's popularity to continue to rise as he becomes one of the most popular crossover athletes since Jordan.

Playing in LA definitely has its benefits.

“Most of my baskets [against the Pacers] came from midrange jumpers…I was the finesse player people said I couldn’t be. I’m excited to show how I’ve added to that part of my game.”

Introducing the 'New Clippers'

A new era is emerging in the 'other' home locker room at the Staples Center.  After years and years of misery, the present and future looks bright for the Clippers.  On Wednesday, the league approved a trade where Chris Paul would go to the Clippers and Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu, and the 2012 Timberwolves' first round draft pick would go to the Hornets.

What does this mean for Blake Griffin?

In a nutshell, this deal combined with the re-signing of DeAndre Jordan, creates probably the most explosive combination in basketball.  Personally, I'm salivating over the thought of CP3 throwing up lobs to 2 of the 3 top dunkers in the NBA.  We've seen the way Paul makes the game so easy for talented players like Tyson Chandler, and now he has 2 guys that can jump out of the gym to pass to.

I fully expect this dynamic to produce enormous amounts of highlight reel dunks and easy transition baskets for the Clippers as they stride into the playoffs.  They might even win a series or 2.  Wouldn't that be something?

Blake Flying with Jordan

I don't know about you, but I cannot wait to see more freakish athleticism out of Blake Griffin this year...
It's a good thing DeAndre Jordan was there to tether Blake before he flew away

"We're going to go to the playoffs this year" - Mo Williams

When training facilities opened Thursday, Blake was the first player to get to the Clippers' training facility and worked out for about 2 hours according to reports.  That is an indicator of the work ethic of the Clippers' superstar in the making.
Blake returning to practice (thanks Genaro Molina / Los Angeles Times)

This kind of dedication and leadership combined with his basketball talents are part of the reason the Clippers are poised for a breakout season.  Mo Williams has already made the bold prediction of guaranteeing a playoff birth this season.  I feel strangely comfortable with the idea of the Clippers in the West best 8.  In fact, I have a feeling that they'll do more than scrape in and might see themselves as high as the 4th or 5th seed if everything comes together. Not only that, but their long term future looks bright too.

The team has a young core of 23-year-old center DeAndre Jordan, 22-year old Blake Griffin, and guard Eric Gordan, who turns 23 on Christmas day.  Considering Jordan and Griffin were 2 of the 3 most frequent dunkers in the NBA, Gordan will be getting a lot of easy assists for a long time.

NBA is coming back for Christmas!

To honor the occasion of the NBA Lockout ending, the regular season is planned to start in an epic triple header showcasing stars like Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Dirk Nowitzki, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and more.

Even with all those great stars, Sports Illustrated chose Blake Griffin to grace the cover of the NBA Preview issue because he will be one of the biggest stories in the league again this year.  Look out for a MONSTER sophomore year from Blake and get ready for the Clippers to be a playoff contender.

Blake interns for Funny or Die

There have been a lot of athletes to cross over into the real of film and comedy, but few have put in their due diligence.  Since Blake Griffin had a lot more time on his hands during the NBA lockout, he turned to his backup career of comedy by interning for Will Ferrell at Funny or Die.  Check it out.
